Wedding season:
We were lucky enough to witness two weddings in the streets of Kathmandu because right now is their wedding season. A brass and drumming band decked out in red uniform with sparkling gold accessories played blaring upbeat and frantic Indian style music that filled the streets. Many elaborately dressed members of the family waited next to the wedding car. The car, an old beaten up Ford, had been carefully decorated with flowers and lush material. The bride and groom arrived after a crescendo of music and excitement. Passers by stopped for a glance at the hype and then moved on... just another ordinary day for them in the city I guess. The bride was hidden under layers of jewels, silks, golden motifs and heavy beautiful eye makeup. The groom donned a necklace of feathers and beading and a richly patterned hat and silk suit. The whole experience was a treat to witness, I felt like I was on the set of a Bollywood movie. The over the top celebration was an aural and visual feast that made my eyes, ears and my brain very happy!
